Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between menopause management practice and low back pain in climacteric women. The study subjects were 268 climacteric women between 40 to 60 years old. The instruments used for this study were the management of menopause scale developed by Song(1997) and Visual Analogue Scale.

There was no significant difference on the menopause management practice between the premenopausal and the postmenopausal group. There was no significant difference on the degree of low back pain between the premenopausal and postmenopausal group. There was no correlation between the menopause management practice and the duration of symptoms and degree of low back pain. Both premenopausal and postmenopausal groups generally showed poor menopausal practice management The postmenopausal group showed a higher score in management of sex life than the premenopausal group(t=2.42, p=0.016). Eleven percent of variance of menopause management practice was explained by the marital status, health condition and low back pain. Fourteen point four percent of variance of degree of low back pain was explained by the health condition.
